Privacy.

Plain English. No surprises. Here is exactly what we collect, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it.

§ 01

Who we are.

SmallSeconds is an independent editorial publication based in Melbourne, Australia. The site at smallseconds.co is owned and operated by SmallSeconds. If you need to reach a person about anything in this policy, write to hello@smallseconds.co. We reply.

§ 02

What we collect.

When you sign up to the newsletter we collect your email address, and your name if you choose to give it. When you visit the site we collect basic, anonymised analytics data — the page you looked at, roughly where you were, what kind of device you were on. Nothing that identifies you personally. We do not collect anything else.

§ 03

Why we collect it.

Your email is used to send you the newsletter. That is the only thing it is used for. Analytics data is used to understand which articles people read, how they got there, and whether the site is working. We use it to write better and to fix things that are broken. We do not sell, rent, share, or trade your information with anyone. Ever.

§ 04

Who else sees it.

Three companies, between them, do most of the technical work. Beehiiv sends our newsletter and stores subscriber email addresses (their privacy policy). Google Analytics processes anonymised site traffic data (their privacy policy). Webflow hosts the site itself (their privacy policy). Each of these handles data under their own terms, which we have read and which we are satisfied with.

§ 05

Cookies.

A small number of cookies are set when you visit the site. Most are functional — they keep the site working properly. Google Analytics sets cookies to count unique visits without identifying you. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or any tracker designed to follow you around the internet. You can refuse all cookies in your browser settings without affecting your ability to read the site.

§ 06

Your rights.

If you live in the EU, the UK, California, or anywhere else with privacy laws on the books, you have the right to see what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask us to send it to you in a portable file. You also have the right to unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time — there is a one-click link at the bottom of every email. Email hello@smallseconds.co for any of the above and we will action it within thirty days, usually faster.

§ 07

How long we keep it.

Newsletter subscribers are kept on the list until they unsubscribe. If you unsubscribe, your email is removed from active sending within 24 hours and deleted from our backups within 90 days. Analytics data is anonymised at collection and retained for 14 months in line with Google's defaults.

§ 08

Children.

SmallSeconds is written for adults who are interested in watches. The site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has signed up to the newsletter, write to us and we will remove their details immediately.

§ 09

Changes to this policy.

If anything substantive changes — a new tool collecting data, a new way we use information — we will update this page and email subscribers. The date at the top of this page reflects the last revision. Older versions are available on request.

§ 10

Contact.

Questions, complaints, requests, corrections — anything at all relating to your privacy on this site goes to hello@smallseconds.co. A real person reads every message. If we have not replied within seven days, please write again.
